Morphology

Two or three fruitbodies along one log. Cap 5–8 cm, white to pale cream, deeply funnel-shaped with a wavy torn margin. Gills white, crowded, strongly decurrent. Stipe short, white, with a woolly white base gripping the moss.

Habitat & substrate

Directly on a large moss-covered fallen log. Saprotrophic on wood.

Lookalikes & what rules them out

Funnel shape, decurrent crowded gills and a felted stipe base on wood suggest Clitocybe, Ossicaulis or Lentinellus.
