Angles captured. Three frames — one wide of the whole cluster, two close on the frilled caps.

Morphology

A cluster of four or five fruitbodies on one moss cushion, at mixed stages. Caps 2–6 cm, white to pale grey-cream, the margin conspicuously frilled, crimped and split in the mature ones, still smooth and brown-tinged in the young. Gills pale, crowded. Stipe white, often off-centre.

Habitat & substrate

Moss over rock near a decaying log.

Lookalikes & what rules them out

The crimped margin is distinctive but not diagnostic alone.

Notes

Briefly split in two — the young brown-capped fruitbodies and the mature frilled ones are one cluster at different stages.
