Morphology
A single brown, roughly circular cap 4–5 cm across, convex and smooth, sitting low against a fallen birch. Whether it has a stipe or is attached directly to the wood cannot be told from these angles.
Habitat & substrate
On or beside a fallen paper birch, wintergreen and litter around.
Lookalikes & what rules them out
Could be a young polypore, a bracket, or an agaric — the frames do not distinguish them.
To confirm this identification
An underside frame, which would immediately show pores versus gills.
Notes
Found on the same birch as TM0062 and worth checking whether it is a young fruitbody of the same fungus. Moved to Open cases: the entry itself says the fungus type cannot be determined, and the grouping should not assert what the text denies.
