Angles captured. Two field frames, one taken in the photographer's own shadow to cut the glare, plus five of the spore print.

Morphology

Cap 4–6 cm, olive-yellow and irregularly lumpy above, with a dark brown pore surface beneath. Flesh yellow where broken.

Habitat & substrate

Grass and sand at the trail edge, pine nearby.

Lookalikes & what rules them out

The spore print is large and mid-brown, consistent with the pore surface. An olive-yellow cap over dark brown pores with yellow flesh is a narrower combination than most on this walk.

Notes

Spore print taken (card 4). A different mushroom from the abundant red-capped species it was photographed beside, despite the two being confused at first. This one was also common along the trail.

Found at Coldbrook Rd area, Hubbardston, MA on Friday, 14 August 2026 at 10:09. See the full walk for that day's weather and everything else recorded.
