Yellow-capped mushroom with a volva
cf. Amanita Uncertain
Angles captured. Six field frames including two of the base after lifting, plus four of the spore print.
Morphology
Cap 4–6 cm, clear lemon-yellow, smooth, convex. Stipe white, and the base is swollen into a distinct cup-like sheath — clearly shown in the lifted frames. Gills white and free. Spore print white.
Habitat & substrate
Sandy soil among pine needles and grass.
Lookalikes & what rules them out
A white spore print, free white gills and a sheathing cup at the stipe base is the Amanita presentation. The genus contains the most dangerous mushrooms in the region, and a yellow cap does not exclude any of them.
To confirm this identification
Whether a ring is present on the stipe, and the exact form of the base — a sheathing volva and a marginate bulb mean different things.
Notes
Spore print taken (card 6), white. The white print is what raises this from a colour note to a genus-level determination, and it is exactly the character a photograph cannot supply. Treat as dangerous until determined.
