Morphology

Cap 6–8 cm, white to pale cream above, broadly convex. Gills brown and close, clearly shown in the second frame. Stipe pale.

Habitat & substrate

Leaf litter, low light at the end of the walk.

Lookalikes & what rules them out

A white cap over brown gills is a useful combination — it rules out the white-spored groups, including the destroying angels, and points toward a brown-spored genus.

Notes

The two frames were initially logged as separate mushrooms. The brown gills are the most useful single observation on this walk, because they exclude a dangerous group rather than merely failing to.
