Cinnabar polypore on a stick
Pycnoporus cinnabarinus (= Trametes cinnabarina) Species

Morphology
Two or three fused brackets along a fallen stick, each 2–4 cm across, intensely uniform orange-red, matte and finely felted above, thin and corky, attached broadly with no stipe.
Habitat & substrate
On a fallen hardwood stick lifted from the forest floor. Saprotrophic white-rot.
Lookalikes & what rules them out
Little else in the northeast is this colour.

Nothing essential.
Notes
The same species as TM0020 at Massasoit Rd, five days earlier — the first taxon to appear at two different sites in this guide.
